Halfway

I have included pictures of the work I have been doing in the last couple of days. The first is a worksheet- all the colored areas and gold (actually bronze paint) were completed by me, but the sheet with the "D", bar, foliage and vines was printed. The "T" is an acanthus or turning leaf design which we traced, inked and painted. A few folks were really confused by the design and could not see the turning of the leaves even having finished painting it- can you see it? My issue, which is actually a problem with my icon painting is that I am a little too careful with contrast and my icons end up being too dark or with not enough contrast. The classroom or Charles is good at prodding me to be more bold. That slowed me down today. That being said I am definitely in the forward group, but we are getting a little spread out and so my goal of towing folks in my industrious wake is not really being realized. We have been exchanging trade secrets and resources which is a major benefit from a class like this. Funny. You would think with the internet you could find these resources easily, but especially in artisan or specialized fields, it seems one class can be worth a thousand google searches. I love it. The iconography teacher and class host is really great and she is an accomplished iconographer. I like her work and will most likely take a course with her in the future.
We are at the halfway point in our class and it looks like we may only have a demo with lettering. But, I will yet hope. Tomorrow "white vine" and gilding. Click on this link to see an example of a white vine capital "A". http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/barbarajupe/ViewPicture3.htm

after learning this--would you then start adding latin to your icon paintings?
it's very beautiful. it will be neat to see them when you are back.
Nope. No Latin. I'll make sure to show them. Thanks for tuning in.
